And we're off....

Well it's finally started. I got on the bike at 8 in the morning and headed down to the ferry from Birkenhead to downtown Auckland. For some reason they don't like people biking across the harbour bridge.

After that it was a beautiful sunny half day cycle to Ramarama about 40km south of Auckland. Most of the ride is through suburbs but being a Sunday there was very little traffic. One guy on a huge touring motorbike stopped for a chat at a set of traffic lights, he was off to draw out money for pay for his wife's tattoo.

The campsite at Ramarama was very quiet. I set up camp under a tree and got stuck into the handwashing - joy of joys! I also met a second guy who had set up home in a caravan after his marriage had broken up (or is that down?). Could be a common theme, not that I'll pester other campers to find out.

Today's myPod hits were Piano Man by Billy Joel, The tune to the 1970's KFC ad Hugo said you go..." and Dominion Road by The Muttonbirds (even though I didn't ride down it!)

Ciao for now
Stu
